1. What has been falsely reported?

Many media outlets released false reports regarding the cause of former chairman Yoo Byung-eun’s death, such as “He committed  suicide” or “ He was killed”. These false reports were either deleted or addressed by a correction or refuting report through the Press Arbitration Commission and negotiation between the press and the involved parties. Examples of false reporting are as follows.

 

It is not difficult to see prime suspects committing suicide amid prosecution’s  investigation. Recently, Mr. Sung Wan-Jong(64),  Former Chairman of Kyung-Nam Enterprises have committed suicide, and in 2014, YooByung-eun(73), Former Chairman of Semo Corp, who was mainly responsible for the Sewol ferry incident, has been found dead. In 2009, Former president Roh Moo-Hyun(63), linked to a corruption investigation, died in a leap from a cliff. The number of suspects who committed  suicide amid prosecution’s investigation is 60 between 2010 to 2014.

The National Forensic Service said that an autopsy has not determined the cause of death of Former Chairman Yoo Byung-eun. Therefore there is no evidence to conclude whether he committed suicide or was killed.

NFS confirmed that the corpse was Mr.YBE… couldn’t determine the cause of death.

After the autopsy of Former Semo Corp. Chairman Yoo Byung-eun, who has been found dead, the National Forensic Service(NFS) said, “We have conducted various tests to look for signs of  suffocation, poisoning, chronic disease, and death by external cause but  it was impossible to determine the cause of death since the body was in a very advanced stage of decomposition”.

“No evidence or clue has been found that Yoo was murdered”

 Suncheon Police station held a briefing on Aug 19th and Commissioner of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, Baek Seung-ho said that there was no evidence or clue that shows Yoo died of homicide. The investigation headquarter has come to this conclusion based on the results of their forensic investigation, which was conducted for 28 days from july 23rd until today, including two autopsies, forensic medicine analysis, forensic entomology analysis, ecological environment analysis and scrutiny of the main scene as well as the investigation of arrested suspects, and interviews of roughly 1400 residents, bus drivers and business owners of Songchijae.

Corrections and rebuttal statement on former chairman Yoo Byung-eun

It has been revealed that  there was no evidence found that  former chairman Yoo Byung-eun committed suicide. According to the autopsy report by the national forensic agency on July 25th, 2014, it was impossible to determine the cause of death since the body was in a very advanced stage of decomposition. It was also confirmed that Chonghaejin Marine Co. was founded by individual shareholders in February 1992, a year and half later Semo Corp. went bankrupt. We hereby correct our reports. Furthermore, the Evangelical Baptist’s Church(EBC) states that a significant part of the 240 billion won worth of assets suspected of belonging to the Yoo family are real estate properties owned by the farming associations, which had been established by church members.
