[Properties under Borrowed Names] Former Chairman Yoo Owns One-Third of Ulleungdo?

1. What are the false reports?

Statements such as “former Chairman Yoo owns one-third of Ulleungdo” are allegations of properties under borrowed names. Such arguments are false reports released by a number of press agencies. Either such reports were removed or correction reports were published in consultation with the Press Arbitration Committee and/or the involved press agencies. Examples of false reports are as follows.

 

An agricultural cooperative was additionally revealed to have been supposedly used for holding properties by the family members of Semo’s former Chairman Yoo Byung-eun, the de facto owner of Chonghaejin Marine Co., which owned the Sewol ferry.

 

Saenuri Party Congressman Kim Jae-won (Gunwi-gun, Uiseong-gun, Cheongsong-gun), who is part of the Agriculture, Forestry, Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Committee of the National Assembly, stated in a press release on the 29th that “former Chairman Yoo owns a total of 445,570㎡ (134,784 pyung) of fields and orchards through Okchong Agricultural Cooperative. They include 177,073㎡ (53,564 pyung) of land in Oksan-myeon and Bian-myeon in Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk; 220,1625㎡ (67,041 pyoung) in the Ulleung-gun area; and other areas in Cheongsong-gun and Gunwi-gun.

 

Congressman Kim also stated that “It is suspected that former Chairman Yoo owns one-third of the land from the four myeons of Ulleungdo under three agricultural cooperatives, including Bohyeonsan, Okcheong, and Mongjungsan Dawon.”

Also, it was clarified that former Chairman Yoo never stated “If Kim Hyegyung betrays us, the Salvation Group will utterly be destroyed.”
